The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has collaborated with the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) to introduce a 28-day leadership and management course aimed at enhancing the skills of senior officers.
The course, which commenced at the Senior Command and Staff College in Bwebajja, is designed to strengthen leadership and management capabilities within the force.
The comprehensive training program covers five key areas: equipping officers with the skills to effectively lead and manage institutions within the UPF, improving staff performance and overall efficiency, training on entrepreneurial skills and resource management for optimized policing operations, enhancing communication strategies for effective policing and community engagement, and ensuring proper monitoring and evaluation of policing activities for accountability and continuous improvement.
The course was officially launched by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Moses Kafeero, Director of Human Resource Development, who emphasized the critical role of leadership and management in day-to-day policing activities.
He noted that the training will empower officers with the necessary tools to address contemporary challenges in law enforcement and public service management.
Dr. S. Kasozi Mulindwa, Director of Programs and Students’ Affairs at UMI, urged officers to actively engage in the course and apply the knowledge gained to improve policing strategies in their respective jurisdictions. He reiterated UMI’s commitment to supporting capacity-building initiatives within the police force.
This partnership between UPF and UMI reflects a broader effort to professionalize law enforcement in Uganda by investing in skill development and modern management techniques.
With senior officers undergoing this training, the initiative is expected to have a significant impact on police operations, ultimately enhancing security and service delivery to the public.
