Two police officers, AIP Hadali Kenneth, 47, and PC Katungi Alex, 45, attached to the Environmental Protection Police Unit, have been remanded to Luzira Prison after being charged with assault and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor.
The officers appeared before the Kajajansi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where they faced charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, contrary to Sections 219 and 364 of the Penal Code Act.
According to the charge sheet, PC Katungi Alex and other suspects allegedly assaulted Nabukali Maria on January 16, 2025, at Kitende Village, Kajansi Town Council in Wakiso District, causing her bodily harm.
The prosecution claims that the two officers conspired to attack Nabukali, resulting in her injuries.
The case has sparked public interest, with human rights activists demanding thorough investigations into allegations of police brutality.
The officers are expected to return to court on April 9, 2025, for further proceedings. Authorities have yet to comment on the officers’ conduct or their suspension from duty.
