A dark cloud hangs over Ibanda District following the tragic and deeply unsettling death of Maclean, the Human Resource Officer of Ibanda Municipality, in what police and family sources have described as a case of brutal domestic violence.
Maclean died at Kampala International University Hospital in Ishaka earlier today after battling for her life for several days.
Her death has sent shockwaves through the local community and ignited calls for justice, accountability, and greater awareness of domestic violence.
Sources close to the family allege that Maclean was fatally beaten by her husband, Amwiine Innocent, who serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) registrar for Ibanda District.
The incident, believed to have stemmed from accusations of infidelity, has left residents in mourning and disbelief.
A Deadly Confrontation
According to multiple sources familiar with the situation, the fatal encounter began after Amwiine Innocent was tipped off by another woman who claimed that Maclean was involved in a romantic relationship with another man—an allegation the family says remains unsubstantiated.
Fuelled by suspicion and rage, Amwiine reportedly confronted his wife, and what began as a heated argument quickly spiralled into a physical altercation.
Witnesses allege that Amwiine severely beat Maclean during the confrontation, leaving her with grave injuries.
Tragically, instead of seeking help or medical intervention, Amwiine is said to have locked his wounded wife inside their home and fled the scene.
It was only through the courageous intervention of his own brother that Maclean’s father was alerted.
He acted swiftly, rescuing his daughter from the house where she had been left alone and in agony.
A Battle for Life
Maclean was first rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where doctors quickly recognized the severity of her condition. Her health was deteriorating rapidly, and medical professionals advised an urgent transfer to Kampala International University Hospital in Ishaka for specialized treatment.
Despite all efforts to stabilize her condition, Maclean succumbed to her injuries early this morning.

News of her death has devastated family, friends, and colleagues, many of whom described her as hardworking, warm, and committed to serving her community.
In Ibanda, a sombre silence has settled over the district headquarters and surrounding neighborhoods as word spreads of the tragedy.
Suspect on the Run
As the community mourns, the suspect remains at large. Authorities at Ibanda Central Police Station have confirmed that a formal case has been opened and investigations are underway.
A manhunt has been launched for Amwiine Innocent, who disappeared shortly after the incident and has yet to surrender to police.
Public Reaction
The incident has sparked outrage and sorrow across social media and within the district. Many are questioning how such a tragedy could occur within a household that, to outsiders, seemed respectable and functional.
Others are using the moment to spotlight the often-overlooked issue of domestic violence, urging authorities to take stronger action to protect women and punish perpetrators.
“Maclean’s death is not just a family tragedy—it is a national shame,” said one women’s rights activist in Ibanda.
“This cannot be swept under the rug because the suspect holds a political position. We demand justice, not just for Maclean, but for every woman who has suffered in silence.”
A Call for Justice
As the nation comes to terms with the loss, many questions remain unanswered. Was this an isolated incident or part of a long-standing pattern of abuse? What more could have been done to prevent this fatal end?
For now, Maclean’s family and the wider community await answers—and justice. Her death is a grim reminder of the lethal consequences of domestic violence, a crisis that continues to claim lives across Uganda, often in silence and without warning.
As Ibanda prepares to lay one of its civil servants to rest, one thing is clear: this tragedy must not be forgotten, and justice must not be delayed.

Women please dont be competitors in men’s homes, if you keep two bulls in one krarl, rest assured you will have to lose one, either by conceeding defeat n running away from the krarl, or one killing the other.
But there must be one bull in the krarl for peace to prevail.
Rest in peace Macklean
Its a big shame to someone holding such a position to act in such a way may we see justice being enforced
