Police have vowed to hunt down and arrest all those involved in the brutal killing of a 28-year-old officer who was attacked by a mob during a funeral in Ibanda District.
PC Chemonges Suleiman, attached to Bisheshe Police Station, was on duty at the funeral of inmate Kahangire Lazarus when he was fatally attacked by mourners.
In a strongly worded statement, the Uganda Police Force condemned the attack and made it clear that justice will be pursued without compromise.
“This was a senseless act of violence,” the statement read. “We want to assure the public that all suspects involved in this criminal act shall be arrested and brought to book.”
Police recovered an SMG rifle and 16 rounds of ammunition from the scene. Suleiman’s body was taken to Ruhoko Health Centre mortuary.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities pledging to identify and apprehend everyone connected to the attack.
Police have called on the public to cooperate with investigators and report any information that may aid in the arrests.
