Despite early morning showers in Kampala, nothing could dampen the spirit of thousands who turned up for the Kabaka Birthday Run 2025, held in honor of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 70th birthday.
Over 10,000 enthusiastic participants flooded the streets around Lubiri, Mengo, showcasing unmatched energy and unity.

The annual run, now in its 12th edition, was flagged off by the Kabaka himself, who made a surprise appearance at Bulange Palace to see off the sea of runners.

His presence ignited excitement and pride among participants, of whom were draped in traditional Buganda colors and branded gear for the event.
Held under the theme “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child”, this year’s run focused on HIV/AIDS awareness, particularly advocating for increased male participation in health and prevention efforts.

The event featured 5km, 10km, and 21km races, drawing people of all ages and backgrounds from across the country.
In a strong show of solidarity, the run was not only a fitness event but a powerful health initiative.
Free HIV testing and counseling services were offered at various points, organized in partnership with the Uganda AIDS Commission. Proceeds from the run will go toward ongoing national efforts to end AIDS by 2030.

The Kabaka Birthday Run has evolved into more than just an annual celebration — it’s a movement.
And this year, even the rain had to make way for the unstoppable spirit of the kingdom
