The Katuukiro of Busoga Kingdom, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, has fired back at First Deputy Premier Rebecca Kadaga, saying that nobody, including Kadaga, is bigger than the Busoga monarchy.
Muvawala’s statement comes after Kadaga claimed that the Kyabazingaship was overthrown. Kadaga, who is also the Kamuli District Woman Member of Parliament, made the remarks on a local radio station, sparking controversy in the Busoga sub-region.
In response, Muvawala assured the public that the Kyabazinga, William Kadhumbula Nadiope, is fully in charge of the kingdom and has not been overthrown.
He emphasized that the Kyabazinga is the cultural head and father of Busoga, and nobody within the kingdom should assume they have power or control over him.
The controversy stems from a long-standing dispute between the Gabula and Wambuzi factions, which was resolved in 2014 and led to Prince Gabula’s election as Kyabazinga.
Muvawala also clarified that President Museveni, who is the guardian to the Kyabazinga, did not interfere with the election process, which is a cultural matter.
Kadaga’s claims have been dismissed by Muvawala as “misplaced”, and he has accused her for trying to play victim at the expense of Kingdom.
The standoff between Muvawala and Kadaga has sparked a heated debate in the Busoga sub-region, with many calling for calm and respect for the kingdom’s institutions.
Kadaga’s pressure is further rooted to the looming for general elections that have seen several powerful individuals expressing interest in positions she has held for decades.
