Kampala, Uganda – April 8, 2025 — The Tanzania-Uganda Trade Mission officially opened in Kampala this week, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to deepen economic collaboration between the two East African nations.
State Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Gen. Wilson Mbadi, warmly welcomed delegates from both countries and emphasized the mission’s role in advancing bilateral trade and investment.
“This gathering marks a significant step in strengthening the commercial and investment ties between Uganda and Tanzania,” he said.
The Trade Mission is a follow-up to the commitments made during the Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum held in Dar es Salaam in May 2024.
During that forum, both public and private sector leaders from Uganda and Tanzania have pledged to enhance economic cooperation, boost investment flows, and eliminate barriers to the free movement of goods, services, and capital across borders.
Minister Mbadi highlighted Uganda’s vibrant industrial and entrepreneurial ecosystem as a key area for collaboration.
He pointed to investment-ready zones such as the Liaoshen Industrial Park, Pearl Dairy, and Namanve Industrial Park, which offer fertile ground for joint ventures, supply chain development, and market integration.
“These efforts are crucial in fostering a competitive and integrated regional economy,” Mbadi noted.
He also underscored the transformative potential of regional infrastructure projects like the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), expected to unlock over USD 20 billion in revenue, create more than 10,000 jobs, and stimulate growth in sectors such as energy, logistics, and telecommunications.
“Uganda remains committed to building a conducive business environment, focused on reducing transaction costs and expanding market access,” the Minister affirmed.
In his closing remarks, Mbadi encouraged delegates to leverage the trade mission to build trust, explore new business opportunities, and collectively work toward a more prosperous and unified East African Community.
The Tanzania-Uganda Trade Mission will include B2B meetings, site visits to key industrial hubs, and policy discussions aimed at aligning investment priorities and trade facilitation strategies between the two nations.
