Karuma Bridge, a key link on the Kampala–Gulu Highway, is set to reopen to all motorized traffic starting tomorrow morning, April 14, 2025, following a major rehabilitation project.
Authorities have confirmed that the bridge is now fully restored and ready to support vehicles of all types, marking the end of a critical maintenance effort that has impacted travel between central and northern Uganda.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we undertook this very essential rehabilitation exercise of the bridge,” officials said in a public statement on Sunday.
The bridge, which spans the Nile at Karuma Falls, is a vital infrastructure point for trade, transport, and regional connectivity.
The rehabilitation has been described as one of the most significant upgrades the structure has seen in recent years.
Travelers and transporters are expected to benefit from smoother and safer transit along the busy highway, with the reopening promising to ease traffic flow and reduce delays that had become common during the repair period.
Authorities have not yet detailed the full scope of the work done, but they emphasized that the bridge is now in better condition than ever before.
