President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged senior government officials to take a firm stand against corruption and inefficiency in public service delivery, calling for immediate action to restore integrity in key sectors including education, healthcare, and land administration.
Speaking at a high-level meeting this afternoon at State House, Entebbe, the President met with Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), Town Clerks, and Under Secretaries to address what he described as the “irritants” undermining government efforts to improve citizens’ lives.
“We agreed to confront the irritants undermining our service delivery,” President Museveni said in a statement shared on social media following the meeting. “These include corruption in education and healthcare, as well as land grabbing.”
The President placed particular emphasis on the need to enforce the government’s policy of free education in public schools, warning against any practices that hinder access to learning for Ugandan children.
“By promoting free education, better health, and wealth creation, we can achieve socio-economic transformation,” he stated. “In that way, we restore public confidence and help the country rise.”
Museveni also voiced concern over ongoing drug theft and called for stronger measures to protect the integrity of the health system.
The meeting forms part of a broader effort by the government to reenergize the public sector and ensure that service delivery aligns with the country’s development agenda. With a focus on transparency and accountability, the President challenged civil servants to be agents of change in their respective roles.
The commitment made at State House signals a renewed political will to tackle systemic challenges and improve the quality of life for all Ugandans.
