Motor insurance in Zambia is getting a much-needed digital upgrade, thanks to CarVer—a homegrown fintech solution that is simplifying how drivers access insurance. For decades, renewing or purchasing motor insurance meant long queues at insurance offices or post offices. CarVer is changing all that.
Founded nearly three years ago, CarVer is a digital insurance broker platform that allows vehicle owners to purchase insurance and road tax through a mobile app, web, or USSD—anytime, anywhere. With support for both Zambian residents and COMESA-region drivers entering Zambia, the platform is accessible and easy to use. Customers simply input their vehicle details, choose an insurer, and select the type and duration of coverage. The system then calculates the premium, and payment can be made via mobile money, cards, or integrated aggregators. In just minutes, users receive their cover note via SMS and email.
“Convenience is key,” said Musonda Chitobolo, Chief Operations Officer at CarVer. “We’ve integrated 12 insurance providers so far and serve over 200,000 vehicles.”
While infrastructure challenges remain, CarVer is proving that digital innovation can make a real impact in everyday sectors like insurance. The startup featured on Day 4 of the #40Days40FinTechs Zambia and Malawi Edition, an initiative by HiPipo that celebrates fintechs solving real-world problems and driving financial inclusion across Africa.
CarVer’s story is just one example of how African innovators are rethinking traditional services for the digital age.
