In a bold step toward safer roads and smarter traffic enforcement, the Ministry of Works and Transport (Mowt), in collaboration with the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System Uganda, has announced the upcoming launch of a revolutionary Electronic Payment System (EPS Auto) designed to tackle reckless driving in real-time.
The EPS Auto, a smart, automated system, uses cutting-edge technology to detect traffic violations such as speeding and running red lights.
Once a violation is recorded, a fine notification is sent directly to the offender’s phone instantly and without the need for any human intervention.
“This system isn’t just about punishment; it’s about saving lives,” an officer from the Ministry of Works and Transport emphasised during today’s awareness session, the first in a series aimed at educating road users.
The campaign kicked off with the Boda Boda community, one of the most active and vulnerable groups on Ugandan roads.

The MoWT says the real-time enforcement will create a culture of accountability, reduce traffic crashes, and ultimately make Uganda’s roads safer for all.
“This isn’t the future — it’s happening now. Drive smart. The system is watching,” the ministry posted on social media, alongside the announcement.
EPS Auto is expected to roll out very soon, and drivers across the country are urged to stay informed and follow traffic regulations. Uganda may be entering a new era of digital road safety — and there’s no turning back.
