The Government of Uganda has taken a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity and boosting economic development with plans to upgrade Kasese Airport to international status.
This afternoon, the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China State Engineering Construction Company to carry out the ambitious project.
According to the agreement, the Chinese firm will pre-finance the construction, demonstrating strong bilateral cooperation and investment confidence in Uganda’s infrastructure sector.
As part of the process, the company will review the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) masterplan and develop new designs tailored to meet international standards.
Once completed, the upgraded airport is expected to become a major hub for trade and tourism in western Uganda, opening up the Kasese region to greater economic opportunities and increased global accessibility.
The move aligns with Uganda’s broader agenda to modernize its transport infrastructure and position itself as a strategic gateway in East Africa.
