In a landmark moment for Uganda-China trade relations, the first shipment of premium Ugandan coffee has officially landed in Henan Province, China.
This major development follows sustained diplomatic and trade efforts, including fruitful engagements on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The historic arrival of three containers—amounting to 60 tons—of Ugandan coffee was marked with an official unboxing and customs clearance ceremony in Zhengzhou, officiated by H.E. Oliver Wonekha, Uganda’s Ambassador to China.
The event signified not only the physical arrival of Uganda’s famed Arabica and Robusta beans in central China but also a growing appetite for Ugandan agricultural products in Asian markets.
The breakthrough builds on recent efforts by Uganda’s Embassy in Beijing to expand market access in China, strategically positioning Ugandan products through trade fairs, diplomatic outreach, and direct business engagements.
The shipment is the result of ongoing collaboration, signaling a promising future for Uganda’s agricultural sector in global trade.

With coffee being Uganda’s top agricultural export, this milestone is expected to boost farmer incomes, encourage value addition, and open doors for other commodities to enter the Chinese market.
The Henan coffee launch sets the stage for deeper economic cooperation and showcases the effectiveness of persistent diplomatic and commercial follow-up.
As Uganda’s coffee beans brew their way into the hearts of Chinese consumers, this first delivery stands as a symbol of opportunity, partnership, and shared growth between Uganda and China.
