The late Maj. John Bashaija Kazoora was laid to rest today in his ancestral home of Kashari, Mbarara District, with a powerful tribute from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, delivered by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa.
Representing the President at the burial ceremony, Tayebwa conveyed a heartfelt message recalling Maj. Kazoora’s early and courageous involvement in Uganda’s liberation struggle.
“Maj. Kazoora joined the National Resistance Army (NRA) in 1982, shortly after completing his university exams. His bravery and patriotism were clearly demonstrated throughout the liberation struggle,” the President’s message read.
President Museveni lauded Kazoora’s dedication and sacrifice, describing him as a patriot whose contributions would be remembered in Uganda’s history.
Despite later political differences that led Maj. Kazoora to part ways with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Museveni emphasised that they remained in contact over the years.
“Disagreements are part of life,” Museveni acknowledged, “but ongoing dialogue is essential. It is through such conversations that we shall build the Uganda we aspire to.”
In his own reflections, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa spoke of the personal impact Maj. Kazoora had on him, highlighting the late soldier’s consistent wisdom and guidance even across political divides.
“He advised me on many occasions even when we were on different political fronts,” Tayebwa said.
“I encourage all those who contributed to the liberation of our country to remain engaged and to continue the conversation, wherever they may be, for the good of Uganda.”
As mourners gathered to honour a man remembered for his patriotism, courage, and enduring influence, the message was clear: Uganda’s future depends on unity, dialogue, and the spirit of service exemplified by the late Maj. Kazoora.
