Nakapiripirit, Uganda — The National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) has officially endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the sole candidate for the 2026 presidential elections.
The endorsement was announced during the Labour Day celebrations held in Nakapiripirit District on May 1, 2025.
Representing NOTU at the event, Sam Lyomoki declared the federation’s support for President Museveni’s continued leadership.
Lyomoki highlighted the President’s contributions to workers’ rights, economic stability, and national security as key reasons for the endorsement.
“Under President Museveni’s leadership, Uganda has seen significant strides in promoting labor rights and ensuring a stable environment conducive to economic growth,” Lyomoki stated.
The endorsement aligns with a series of similar declarations from various regions and organizations across the country.
In December 2024, leaders from the Bugisu sub-region endorsed President Museveni as the sole candidate for the upcoming elections, citing his visionary leadership and commitment to national development .
President Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, has yet to officially announce his candidacy for the 2026 elections.
However, the growing endorsements from key stakeholders like NOTU signal a strong backing for his potential bid.
As Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections, the political landscape is increasingly shaped by endorsements and declarations of support for President Museveni, reflecting his enduring influence and the confidence placed in his leadership by various sectors of society.
