Security forces have arrested a notorious armed robber identified as Imanantireganya Alfadudu, alias “Congolese,” in an intelligence-led operation conducted in Bulamu Cell, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.
The arrest took place on the night of May 9, 2025, around 10:00 p.m., according to a statement issued by ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the Uganda Police Force spokesperson.
Alfadudu is suspected to be behind a string of violent robberies and murders in several regions, including the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area, Busoga East, Busoga North, Elgon region, and Ssezibwa.
Following his arrest, Alfadudu reportedly confessed to participating in multiple armed robberies alongside accomplices known as Mozy, Mapengo, and others.
He revealed that the gang used a SAR rifle to commit their crimes and frequently concealed the weapon at the home of an associate, Ivulungo Bumali, in Girigiri Village, Mayuge District.
Acting on this intelligence, a joint team comprising police and other security agencies conducted a follow-up operation in Mayuge, where they recovered the SAR rifle from Ivulungo’s residence.
Additional items retrieved from the scene included two hammers, a knife, and jackets believed to be used during the gang’s operations.
Ivulungo and his wife were taken into custody to aid with ongoing investigations. Preliminary analysis indicates the recovered firearm was stolen during a robbery in Mukono in October 2024.
Authorities have commended the collaboration among security agencies that led to the breakthrough and reiterated their commitment to dismantling criminal networks threatening public safety.
Investigations into the wider criminal syndicate are ongoing.
