Uganda Wildlife Authority’s top leadership, led by Executive Director Dr. James Musinguzi, today hosted the Coordinator of Vital Assets and Strategic Installations in the UPDF, Major General Moses Rewakitarate, at UWA Head Office in Kampala, in a high-level meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration in the protection of Uganda’s wildlife assets and infrastructure.
The meeting was also attended by liaison officers Colonel Kanyamunyu Michael and Francis Kugonza for Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Internal Security Orgnization (ISO) respectively, attached to UWA.
During the engagement, Maj. Gen. Rewakitarate presented a detailed report of his recent visits to several conservation areas across the country. He commended the zeal, dedication, and professionalism exhibited by UWA staff on the ground. He said that UWA staff play a key role in protecting Uganda’s natural heritage amidst security and environmental challenges.
The General, however, pointed out a number of areas that require improvement, particularly in coordination, infrastructure, and field logistics. UWA management acknowledged the observations and committed to addressing the highlighted gaps to further enhance operational effectiveness.
Dr. Musinguzi expressed appreciation for the General’s visit and insights, and emphasized that conservation and security are deeply interconnected. He reiterated UWA’s readiness to work closely with the UPDF and other security agencies to safeguard protected areas, combat wildlife crime, and preserve tourism assets that are vital to the country’s economy.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing joint operations, intelligence sharing, and continued evaluation of security strategies to ensure the long-term protection of Uganda’s biodiversity and the safety of all stakeholders.
