The Commercial Court has ruled that Haruna Muwanga, also known as Haruna Kasule Muwanga, must pay Shs1.4 billion to Youth and Children Affairs Minister Balaam Barugahara. Muwanga, who serves as the director of BMK Uganda, borrowed the money but failed to repay it. In addition to the principal amount, he has been ordered to pay Shs140 million in damages and interest at a rate of 6 percent per annum. Kyambogo University has dismissed its former acting deputy vice-chancellor, Dr Lawrence Eron, who was in charge of finance and administration. Trade minister Francis Mwebesa has castigated the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) council while defending the appointment of Eng. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has stepped up surveillance along Uganda’s border with DR Congo, following fighting between government and rebel forces.
