Members of Parliament have voiced frustration about the unending assassinations in the country, demanding conclusive investigations from government. Government has assured workers who are yet to lose their jobs following the merging of some government agencies of other jobs in the newly created districts. Speaking this morning during the press conference held at Uganda media center, the minister for ICT and national guidance Hon. Frank Tumwebeze said some of the executive directors in the affected agencies will be made commissioners in their mother ministries. Owners of drug shops have petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, over a directive by the National Drug Authority (NDA) banning the location of their businesses next to pharmacies. NDA Secretary Donna Kusemererwa recently wrote a letter directing that any drug shop that is less than 1.5 kilometers from a pharmacy will be required to either apply for a license to operate as pharmacy or relocate. The directive, which is expected to take effect in January 2019 also stated that NDA would not renew licenses of drug shops in urban areas unless they accept to relocate to rural areas.…

Finance Minister David Bahati has told Parliament’s Committee on Finance that after reducing the Mobile Money tax to 0.5 per cent, government is mooting the idea of taxing “alternative payment platforms” like PayWay and EasyMoney. Bahati said taxing Mobile Money alone creates inequity in taxation. “The tax [Mobile Money] does not apply to alternative payment platforms such as EasyMoney, PayWay and Agency Banking which creates a challenge of equity,” said Bahati. “After this amendment, next financial year, we will probably look at this,” said Bahati.
