Yesterday, different opposition leaders and activists started a fundraising campaign aimed at saving some of the tortured Arua mayhem victims. Police in Luwero has rescued 16 children from being trafficked and unlawfully held by the proprietor of God’s Power Revival Church at Sinalya Hill, Kalule-Bombo in Luwero District. It is alleged that one Musinguzi Keefa, a self-proclaimed pastor and a resident of the same was holding the children unlawfully by disguising to teach them the word of God. Government spokesperson Mr. Ofwono Opondo has freely advised Ugandans to wait for the ballot paper if they are much interested in political dialogue. Ofwono last on Thursday night noted that there’s no dialogue better than elections especially among rival political parties. “The one who kills more isn’t the one who wins. The Democratic Party president Norbert Mao has openly told government spokesperson how he doesn’t like his job. Speaking while appearing on the NBS TV Frontline Talkshow, Mao noted that he likes the Director of the Uganda Media Center as a person but not what he does. The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has called on government to support communities with alternative sources of energy saying this will reduce pressure on forests. Kadaga said that use of alternatives to charcoal and firewood will be a step to positive climate change. Kadaga who was speaking at the launch of a five-year Strategic Plan for the Parliamentary Forum on Climate Change said “as long as we do not find alternative cooking energy for our people, they will continue burning charcoal and cutting down trees”. President Yoweri Museveni has held a bilateral discussion with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, with both leaders witnessing the signing of three agreements between their countries. The three pacts are; an agreement on economic and technical cooperation, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation within the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative and finally an agreement on emergency humanitarian assistance. Foreign affairs state minister Henry Okello Oryem has rebuked opposition politicians seeking to discredit government abroad and describing it as unpatriotic. Speaking to our Insider yesterday, Okello said that Uganda has moved a long journey that doesn’t deserve blackmail form its nationals. He added that if the country is handed any sanctions, it will be the ordinary Ugandans to suffer, urging politicians to avoid pushing their selfish agendas at the expense of the country.
