The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General, John Rujoki Musinguzi, has acknowledged the presence of corruption within the authority but affirmed that the new management is actively combating it. Musinguzi reported that over the past four years, more than 100 staff members have been dismissed due to corruption. On Wednesday, MPs from Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises (COSASE) questioned Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials about the diversion of Sh3.5 billion meant for Entebbe International Airport to upcountry aerodromes. The CAA officials were summoned to address audit queries from the Auditor General’s report for the financial year 2022/2023. The EYDCD program will provide market-relevant skills, business development resources, and digital financial inclusion to empower young people. Building on the success of the Youth and Capacity Development (YCD) program (2020-2023), this expanded effort aims to reach 400,000 young people in Uganda (70% female) and create 250,000 dignified and fulfilling employment opportunities by 2028. The former Kyambogo University Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of finance and administration, Dr Lawrence Eron, has been charged and remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old visually impaired student. Eron, 56, has been missing since December last year after the Director of Public Prosecution, Jane Frances Abodo, sanctioned charges of aggravated defilement against him. Last Thursday, a team of detectives from the Kampala Metropolitan Regional Criminal Investigations questioned Hajjat Hadijjah Namyalo, head of the Office of the National Chairperson (ONC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), about allegations of scamming Ugandan students in the Iran scholarship programme.
