President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed landlords to stop illegal evictions of bibanja holders. He also ordered them that whoever has excessive nominal rent fees (obusuulu) to return it to bibanja holders immediately or risk being arrested. “The landlords who have been charging more than the agreed busuulu fees by the district must return it back, and if they try to evict our people, we shall arrest them. Nilshil Halai, the operations manager at Saltrans Limited, a shipping and logistics firm, has been charged with embezzling sh5oom from the company. Halai was charged last Thursday at the Nakaserobased Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala before Chief Magistrate Joan Aciro. The Government, through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), has released sh3.4b, a one-off gratuity (akasiimo) for civilian veterans who participated in the bush war that brought the National Resistance Army (NRA) to power.
