The former Kabale mayor Pius Ruhemurana, 76 has passed on. According to the family, Dr Ruhemurana succumbed to complications of a stroke at around 2am on Wednesday from Rugarama Hospital in Kabale Municipality. The hospital said he had been battling with stroke for over two years. The medical doctor, a staunch follower of Opposition stalwart and former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Kizza Besigye, was a distinguished gynaecologist who ran a private clinic in the municipality and held several leadership positions. Residents of Busolo Village in Kayunga Sub-county, Kayunga District were stunned when a man who had abandoned his family for 13 years returned home after his wife received Parish Development Model (PDM) funds. The Uganda Revenue Authority-URA has warned the business community against misinterpreting the President’s directive on EFRIS (Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution). URA says the President’s directive did not stop the implementation of EFRIS and urges the taxpayers to continue using the system. “Currently, all VAT-registered taxpayers are mandated to use EFRIS, and URA will continue guiding the business community on the journey to on-board the solution,” it says. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is now responsible for regulating non-governmental organisations’ activities after lawmakers abolished the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) Board. This happened as the legislators debated the NGO (Amendment) Bill, 2024, approved on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, during the plenary session. The National Bureau of NGOs’ duties can be carried out within the Ministry, as was the case in 2016 before the creation of the Board, according to Hon.
