The Uganda Police have disclosed that last week’s traffic accidents resulted in 79 fatalities and 288 injuries.The spokesperson for the traffic police, Michael Kananura, stressed that most of the victims were either pedestrians or motorcycle riders. According to Kananura, of the 79 people who died, 29 were motorcycle riders, 23 were pedestrians, and 9 were either motorcycle passengers or had been in collisions with other cars. He highlighted the need for increased vigilance on the roadways by attributing the majority of the accidents to irresponsible overtaking and speeding. 92-year-old Zewulence Namulondo, a resident of Nawandala village in Nawandala sub-county, Iganga district, has gone without receiving funds from the Social Assistance Grant for the Elderly program (SAGE) for 15 months after being mistakenly declared dead early last year. Police have arrested a security guard attached to SGA Security in connection to last night’s attempted robbery at Equity Bank Soroti Branch. Francis Erumu, the Manager of Equity Bank Soroti, says that everything at the bank is intact despite the attempted robbery. He However, didn’t provide further details. The International Crimes Division of the High Court in Kampala has confirmed charges of terrorism, aggravated robbery and murder against eight people accused of murdering the former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi. Kaweesi was shot dead on March 17th, 2017 together with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa in Kulambiro Nakawa Division in Kampala District by unknown people who were mobbing on motorcycles. A pistol of his bodyguard was stolen. Shops in all parts of the city centre have closed as traders protest over the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solutions (EFRIS) system.
