Parliament has asked government to develop mechanisms that will ensure the country returns to a low risk of debt distress. During plenary on Tuesday, 30 August 2022, Parliament approved two reports of the Committee on National Economy on the State of Indebtedness, Grants and Guarantees and another one on the performance of the economy. Uganda Selected to Host Africa Society for Blood Transfusion conference, Over 500 Delegates Expected
Uganda has been announced as the next host of the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion conference planned for 1st to 4th March 2024. The news was announced by the African Society for Blood Transfusion after a successful bid was accepted by Uganda Blood Transfusion Society with the technical help of Uganda’s Convention Bureau which is a unit in Uganda Tourism Board (UTB). It is estimated that this convention will contribute to the country’s GDP to the tune of US$ 0.6 million. The Human Rights Network for Journalists (HRNJ) and the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) want Members of Parliament to throw out the Computer Misuse Amendment Bill, 2022. The journalist’s associations opine that the proposals in the bill infringe on freedom of speech the press and hinder aspects of investigative journalism and holding leaders accountable. Former Security Minister Gen. Elly Tumwine has passed on, reports say. He was recently airlifted to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. Defence Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Lawmakers have said that corruption and connivance are to blame for the shutdown of Isimba hydropower plant. The Members of Parliament were responding to the statement by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa on the emergency shutdown of the plant. The 183 megawatts Isimba Hydropower power plant in Kayunga district experienced a shut down on Monday, 08 August 2022. The State Minister for Health, Hon. Margaret Muhanga has revealed that government plans vaccinate children against malaria. Muhanga made the revelation during a plenary sitting on Tuesday, 16 August 2022 chaired by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa. “If we do not vaccinate our children again malaria, then we are allowing this killer disease. We lost about 24 children to malaria in June this year,” she said adding that, ‘a vaccine has been manufactured to control malaria especially in children.
