Today the Court of Appeal to deliver ruling on an election appeal challenging FDC’s Apollo Kantinti’s Parliamentary seat Kyaddondo East constituency. Mid last year, High Court judge Isabirye Kaweesa, nullified Kantinti’s election over non-compliance with election rules during the February 18 parliamentary elections. Though the petition was raised by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Sitenda Sebalu who was the former area MP and court ruled in his favour, there have been allegations that Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is eyeing the same position. First Lady Margaret Kenyatta today at State House met with the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Dr. Liu Xianfa who called for enhanced co-operation between China and the Beyond Zero initiative. The first set of FUFA polls 2017 has been conducted successfully at FUFA House with 10 referees’ assessors elected to the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) Assembly. FUFA’s 48 certified referees’ assessors had the mandate to vote their 10 representatives. 27 attended but 4 of them were not allowed to participate because they have already been nominated in their respective districts to represent referees. The Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA 2017/2018 financial year budget in the works and roads infrastructure improvement sector will be reduced to Shillings 248 billion. According to KCCA, the reduction follows a decline in external funding. Putting in consideration the 2016/2017 financial year, KCCA received Shillings 280.8 billion under the Kampala Institutional and Infrastructure Development Project (KIIDP) phase two funded by the World Bank. However, the Authority is set to receive only Shillings 31.79 billion in the 2017/18 financial budget from external financiers though the Central government is expected to contribute Shillings 64.9bn, Uganda Road Fund Shillings 20bn. State Minister for Labor, Employment and Industrial relations Herbert Kabafunzaki has landed in fresh bitter soup with another bribery allegation of a South Korean investor. Earlier on, the South Korean embassy wrote to the permanent secretary ministry of foreign affairs seeking for investigations into the conduct of Kabafunzaki. According to a letter dated April 24, the Kabafunzaki reportedly arrested a South Korean investor Woo Junghoon who had declined to give him a bribe of USD 5000. The Democratic Party Norbert Mao president has asked the vice president of Buganda region Betty Nambooze and her group to respect the party constitution and leadership or leave the party. Mao made these remarks to journalists at the party headquarters at city house in Kampala and added that the Nsambya and Masaka conferences were illegal, biased and unjustified since they lacked the approval from the party’s National Excecutive Council (NEC). Former Ethics Minister Nsaba Buturo has condemned the banning of street preaching by Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) saying the move is an attack on Christianity in the country. Addressing journalists, Nsaba Buturo highlighted that KCCA the move to ban street preachers was not approved by Parliament and KCCA didn’t have the mandate to outlaw it. “We do not see where they are deriving their mandate. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday forecast a 2.6 percent economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa this year. The projected growth is mainly aided by the continent’s largest economies – South Africa, Nigeria and Angola – who have all made a modest recovery after a number of factors affected the economy. “Growth is projected to rise to 2.6 percent in 2017 and 3.5 percent in 2018, largely driven by specific factors in the largest economies, which faced challenging macroeconomic conditions in 2016,” the IMF said in the latest edition of its World Economic Outlook report.
