Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) on Friday officially handed over three international tourism film awards to Hon Tom Butime, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities during a colourful ceremony held at the Sheraton Hotel, Kampala. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa warned environmental activists opposed to the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) that no amount of pressure will deter the government of Uganda from developing the Oil and Gas Sector. Parliament has approved Shs152 billion to facilitate the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) offensive operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Karamoja sub region. The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) joins all Ugandans to celebrate the attainment of Ugx1.15 trillion in Assets Under Management (AUM) by licensed Collective Investment Scheme (CIS) managers, representing savings mobilized from Ugandans. Parliament has interested the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) into investigating the operations of the Presidential Scientific Initiative on Epidemics (PRESIDE) that was supervised by the Minister of Science and Innovation, Dr Monica Musenero. The Select Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation, last week presented its report to Parliament recommending the disbandment of PRESIDE following the uncovering of gross irregularities in its operations and asked that Musenero who was commandeering the Project to step aside for further investigations.
