Umeme shareholders today approved a total dividend payout of shs19.8 billion after endorsing shs12.2 per ordinary share based on the company’s 2020 performance. The dividend will be paid out on or about July 19th 2020, to shareholders in the Company’s register at the close of business on 25th June 2021. Mukono Municipality Lawmaker Hon. Betty Nambooze has challenged Forum for Democratic Change’s Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda to apologize to his seniors. The Government of Uganda through National Water and Sewerage Corporation is putting final touches to the largest sewage treatment plant in East and Central Africa. The project encompasses an ultra-modern sewage treatment plant in Bugolobi, a sewage pre-treatment plant in Kinawataka, a sewerage pumping station on Kibira road and 31km of sewer network. The Bugolobi-Nakivubo sewerage plants comes six years after the commissioning of the Lubigi sewage treatment plant in 2014. Global Organization Mercy Corps has today launched a partnership with African Executive Leaders Solutions (AELS), a thought leadership solutions organization, to create work opportunities for refugees and youth in informal settlements (slums) in Makindye and Kawempe divisions in Kampala. Parliament has passed a motion urging government to establish a Disaster Preparedness and Management Commission that will deal with natural and man-made disasters. Mpigi district woman MP, Hon. Sarah Nakawunde who moved the motion said that the prevailing mechanisms in place to respond to and manage natural or man-made calamities happening around the country is a far outcry from what is required. Article 249 of the 1995 Uganda Constitution prescribed the formation of the Commission to handle natural or man-made disasters that befall the country.
