Today, the Danish Government as represented by the Danish Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Nicolaj A. Hejberg Petersen has donated a total of 14,500,000DKK (Fourteen million and five hundred thousand Danish Kronner) equivalent to 6,004,500,000/= (Six billion, four million and five hundred thousand Uganda Shillings) towards the fight against COVID 19 in Uganda. The grant shall be administered through two partners namely, World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Offices in Uganda. The UK today confirmed that it will be the largest supporter of the international alliance to vaccinate children against deadly diseases, saving millions of lives. Speaking to MPs, International Development Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan announced a funding pledge equivalent of £330 million a year over the next five years to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which will help fund immunisation of 75 million children in the world’s poorest countries. The Uganda Police Force today launched the annual police crime report for 2019. “I am pleased to present to you the crime and traffic/road safety report for 2019. There was a 9.8% decrease in the volume of crimes reported to Police from 238,746 cases reported in 2018 to 215,224 cases reported in 2019. This as Uganda makes its final deliberations in trading off its surplus sugar to Tanzania, with the first consignment of 20,000 metric tones being agreed upon, at the prevailing market rates. Rt Rev Lambert Bainomugisha has been appointed the new Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese. The appointment of Bainomugisha by Pope Francis was announced on Saturday afternoon by the apostolic Nuncio Luigi Bianco. “The Apostolic Nunciature has the Joy to announce that the Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Rt Rev Lambert Bainomumugisha as the new Archbishop of Mbarara,” the letter reads.
