Mull Katende, today received paintings of Uganda’s wildlife from Ugandan artist Solomon Jjagwe and his wife Kim, as part of a cultural and tourism promotion partnership with the Uganda Embassy, Washington, DC. His artwork will be on loan to the Uganda Embassy and will be displayed on some of the Official Chancery walls as well as at the Official Residence. President Yoweri Museveni has cautioned judicial officers against corruption and making justice a preserve of the affluent. Government has listed priority areas to energise the economy in financial year 2020/2021 against the backdrop of widening trade deficits and local revenue gaps. In its report on the Budget Framework Paper presented by the Committee on Budget, MPs warned of a growing trade deficit. Parliament has approved a request by government to borrow Euros 20.6 million (equivalent to Shs83.6 billion) for the implementation of the airborne geophysical survey and geological mapping of Karamoja. The loan will be secured from the Corporate Internationalization Fund of Spain. The Acting British High Commissioner, Sarah Mann held a reception today to officially welcome back the 2018/2019 cohort of Ugandan Chevening scholars. Chevening, which has been running since 1983, is the UK government’s international scholarship scheme aimed at developing global leaders. In Uganda there are already over 240 Chevening beneficiaries. For the academic year 2018/2019, eleven Ugandans received the scholarship, which consists of a one-year fully funded master’s degree at Universities around the UK. Stanbic Bank Uganda has partnered with Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) in a new awareness campaign against deforestation by encouraging the public to plant trees to foster sustainable development and save the environment. As part of the ROOT (Running Out of Trees) Campaign, Stanbic staff will take part in a marathon relay from Kampala to Gulu involving other companies,to highlight the dangers of deforestation.
