The Minister for Finance, Hon Matia Kasaija has asked the Association of Tobacco Exporters in Uganda to establish processing plants in Uganda to support the economy. A section of the exporters represented by Benson Kamau had approached Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to petition against an increase in the export levy on raw tobacco, saying it is driving them out of business. Government slapped a US$0.8 levy on raw tobacco exiting the country which was at US$0.2 in the last financial year. The Mountain Division Court sat Tuesday in Kasese district and charged four UPDF personnel with murder of Benon Nsimenta. On Wednesday morning, it concluded the trial and sentenced the Patrol Commander to 12 months imprisonment and the killer to 35 years in detention. “Justice has not only been done but also seen to be done. Buganda Kingdom (Lukiiko) has today approved a budget of Shs109.7 billion on which the kingdom will run its activities in the next financial year. Speaking while presenting the budget, the Kingdom Finance Minister, Owek. Gen. Mugisha Muntu last week stepped down as the national coordinator for the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT). According to Muntu, this was to enable him contest as the party flag bearer for the 2021 general elections. The Uganda Police force has this afternoon confirmed the arrest of four people from downtown Kampala following the crackdown on red berets. This operation that saw several printing shops along Nasser and Nkurumah road raised over allegation publishing illegal materials which are a preserve of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
