Residents of the newly created Kikuube district have asked Parliament to intervene and offer support in the fight against illegal tobacco trade that has been associated with insecurity. The Mayor of Kikuube Town Council, Moses Mugisha said that tobacco companies that were banned by government have continued to trade in tobacco. “There are traders who were banned from purchasing tobacco but have persisted. The worst thing is that they have delayed paying farmers and we are worried because our children are about to report to school,” Mugisha said. Police in Mbale District on Saturday foiled an attempt by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leaders to hold a public rally at Mpumudde grounds in Namakwekwe ward in Mbale Municipality. FDC had organized a rally where Kizza Besigye, party president Partick Oboi Amuriat, and other leaders were meant to address the people. Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli on Friday asked his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni to dissolve the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) leadership for delaying the Hoima-Tanga Oil pipeline over tax issues. Total SA has suspended its planned $3.5 billion crude export pipeline from Uganda to Tanzania after the collapse of a deal to buy a stake in Tullow Oil Plc’s oil fields in Uganda.
