The opposition Democratic Party president Norbert Mao has described the proposed constitutional amendment as a bill straight from president Museveni. Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party rebel MPs were this afternoon thrown out of the ongoing party caucus at parliament. Speaking during a press conference shortly after the suspension the Lwemiyaga county lawmaker Hon. Parliament will facilitate injured Opposition MPs to get further medical treatment out of the country, the Speaker has promised. The mainly Opposition legislators were injured during a scuffle to forcefully evict MPs suspended over disruption of House proceedings. On 27th Sept. 2017 the Speaker suspended 25 MPs including a Minister for disrupting House proceedings. In trying to evict the suspended MPs, security was called into the House leading to a scuffle in which MPs and staff were injured. Kenya’s government has banned demonstrations in three major Kenyan cities – the capital Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i said the ban was aimed at protecting Kenyans and their property. Opposition supporters have been holding regular protests in the three cities, which have resulted in looting and violent clashes with police. Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili also known as Babu Owino and his Starehe counterpart Charles Njagua (Jaguar) exchanged blows at Parliament media centre on Tuesday. The two MPs fought before they were separated by Parliament staff. President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he will assent to election laws bills once passed by Parliament. Addressing residents at Kaloleni bus stage in Kilifi County on Tuesday, President Kenyatta said he did not see any problem with the bills because issues raised by the opposition are addressed therein. “I have no problem with that law and if Parliament passes (the bills), I will sign, I don’t have any problem with it because it contains contentious issues raised by the opposition,” he said. Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has pulled out of October’s election re-run. Mr Odinga said his withdrawal would give the electoral commission enough time to introduce reforms that will help deliver a more credible election. The Supreme Court annulled the result of the original 8 August poll after finding irregularities and declaring it “neither transparent or verifiable”. The electoral commission had declared incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta the winner. It said Mr Kenyatta had won by a margin of 1.4 million votes.
