People are voting in Kenya’s general election amid fears that the result could trigger communal violence. On the eve of the vote, President Uhuru Kenyatta appealed for calm in a televised speech. Flash floods have claimed the lives of three minors in Kasese town. The Mayor Kasese Municipality, Godfrey Kabbyanga, says the flash floods swept Katodoba in Nyakabingo ward and Kidodo in Railway ward on Monday evening following heavy rains on the hills overlooking Kasese town and by Monday evening, residents hand only managed to identify one of the three minors. Kabbyanga says the running waters swept the children from Katodoba for close to two kilometers before dumping them in Kidodo cell near Queen Elizabeth National park. The National Police service has deployed thousands men in uniform to ensure security during tomorrow’s polls have arrived at their respective stations. According to the National Police Service over spokesperson George Kinoti, about 150,000 officers drawn from the Kenya Police, the Administration Police, General Service Unit and Directorate of Criminal Investigations will help maintain order across the country. He adds that distribution of the police officers has been done with consideration of the perceived threats therefore all is set and has assured Kenyans of adequate security.

The UN Security Council on Saturday unanimously approved tough new sanctions on North Korea including an estimated $1billion export ban – a huge bite out of its total exports, valued at $3billion last year. The Uganda Police has confirmed that the number of Kenyans crossing into the Country has continued to grow with just hours to the general elections. According to the police spokesperson Asan Kasigye has revealed that police had registered about 30 people crossing to Uganda by yesterday in anticipation of possible chaos that might erupt during or after tomorrow’s elections.
