The DStv Kampala Kids Run stakeholders have selected Namusita Primary School, Ekanba Primary School and Kakoge Primary School in Buyende District, Eastern Uganda as beneficiaries of clean water systems to improve sanitation. This is in line with the run’s main objective to provide safe clean water in primary schools. About UGX 20 million was collected from the run which attracted over 4,000 children between 4 -14 years from over 20 schools in Kampala and Entebbe Districts. Hon. Lady Justice Prof. Lillian Tibatemwa Ekirikubinza, a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda was elected to the International Commission of Jurists for a five-year term. This follows an International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) ballot conducted in December 2017 and January 2018. Hon. The ministry of education has threatened to close all the unlicensed primary teaching colleges. According to the state minister of primary education Hon. Rosemary Sseninde revealed this saying the ministry has established that most privates are operating illegally and yet they are producing half-baked teachers. She says that the ministry has sent a team of officials from the ministry to establish those illegal institutes that are just after money for closure. The ministry of Education and sports through Kyambogo University has released the highly anticipated 2017 Grade III Primary Teachers’ Results. The results that came four months earlier than past years, were released by the Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Elly Katunguka who revealed how the performance had declined compared to that of last year. A Total number of 15900 sat for the exams and only a 9800 managed to excel with the remaining number amounting to about 30% failing. A-squad of 40 local football players in Teso Province has been summoned for the residential training ahead of the first edition of The FUFA Drum provinces league. The sixteen Province tournament has been earmarked to kick off on Saturday 24th February 2018 with a derby game between Busoga and Bugisu at the at Bugembe Municipal stadium in Jinja. Minister David Bahati has decried the manner in which Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS) reacted towards the Valentine’s day blood donation campaign. Speaking during today’s plenary Bahati who was acting as the government chief whip said that the decision is highly regrettable. He described UBTS as an independent organization that was supposed to act with an independent mind rather than a shaming government. It should be noted that comment follows the decision by the UBTS to refuse taking blood from the opposition’s Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) officials at the time when the blood bank is empty.
