MTN Uganda has launched the MTN Senkyu program whose objective is to appreciate customers for their loyalty and use of MTN services. All MTN customers will receive redeemable Senkyu points each time they use any service from the MTN Network, such as buying airtime, voice or data bundles and mobile money, among others. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandan youth to take advantage of government programs and engage in income generating ventures. Museveni made this comment while meeting with National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth leaders from the Karamoja sub-region in Moroto. “I urge you to prioritize working for peace, take advantage of government programs and engage in income generating ventures, fearing God and live a responsible life style.” Museveni said. Utility company Umeme Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Directorate of Training (DIT) to promote skilling of underprivileged communities. The partnership aims to expand the scope of Pamoja project, a Umeme initiative which is aimed at building trust and developing productive linkages within while facilitating access to safe, clean and reliable power. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has vowed to offer free technical education to Ugandan Youth. Museveni made this comment while addressing the ruling National Resistance Movement leaders in Lira Town, Lango sub-region. Museveni noted that it would be a shaming if jobs are given to Kenyans due to lack of skills. “I will be ashamed to see Kenyans taking up jobs in Ugandan factories and Ugandan citizens are left out because of no skills. The facility, which was built by a construction unit of the SFC, cost Shs3.48b as contrasted with Shs9b that an external contractor had quoted. Mukono North substation is now in use after power distributor Umeme constructed lines to link the facility with consumers. The utility has erected poles and strung cables from the facility in Mbalala, Mukono District to Katosi, 40 kilometres away, Mpata and within Mbalala. It will construct four extra powerlines from the substation to other areas within Mukono. Umeme’s powerline from Owen Falls in Jinja to MMP Industrial Park in Buikwe is up and now awaits the completion of the construction of factories in the park to plug them to the grid. Four factory proprietors in the park say they will complete construction within one month, starting November. The COVID-19 pandemic, which curtailed movements, delayed the transportation of many critical factory components.
