The Mastercard Foundation today announced its Young Africa Works strategy in Uganda, which has set a goal to enable more than 3 million young people in the country to access dignified and fulfilling work opportunities by 2030. Under Young Africa Works, the Foundation has committed $200 million to ensure young women, men, and refugees in Uganda have access to economic opportunities. Shareholders of British American Tobacco Uganda (BAT Uganda) have in today’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) ratified Ushs 15.7 billion (Ushs 320 per share) as a first and final dividend for the year ended 31st December 2019. Paid on 19th June 2020, the dividend is in line with the Company’s 100% dividend pay-out policy and was a timely income injection for Ugandan shareholders amidst economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. MTN Uganda has in partnership with SIMFY AFRICA, launched a SuperApp called ‘ayoba’ that will enable customers to access more affordable communication. ayoba is an instant messaging app available for now for Android devices and soon for iOS and works with any network. What makes it different from other messaging apps is that you can still chat (app to SMS and SMS to app) with anyone regardless of whether they have the ayoba app or not. Media owners in Uganda have called for support from the Electoral Commission and other election players to be able to effectively deliver the 2020/2021 elections. The call was made during a meeting between members of the National Association of Broadcasters and the Electoral Commission held on Monday at the commission headquarters in Kampala to discuss how to work together as the country holds the first-ever virtual compaigns. The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has directed the Minister of Internal Affairs to investigate the state of affairs at the Nsambya Police Barracks in Kampala.
