The Uganda Police Force today launched the annual police crime report for 2019. “I am pleased to present to you the crime and traffic/road safety report for 2019. There was a 9.8% decrease in the volume of crimes reported to Police from 238,746 cases reported in 2018 to 215,224 cases reported in 2019. This as Uganda makes its final deliberations in trading off its surplus sugar to Tanzania, with the first consignment of 20,000 metric tones being agreed upon, at the prevailing market rates. The President assented to the bill on 24th, April, 2020. The sugar industry of Uganda will be exporting 20,000 Metric Tonnes of brown sugar to the United Republic of Tanzania by the end of May 2020. Parliament last week passed a Shs45 trillion budget for the next financial year 2020/21. The budget which saw an increment of over shs6 trillion from the 2019/2020 budget was passed Friday, 24 April 2020 at a sitting chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga following debate on the budgetary allocations where MPs called for interventions in the health sector amid the current corona virus pandemic. Rt Rev Lambert Bainomugisha has been appointed the new Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese. The appointment of Bainomugisha by Pope Francis was announced on Saturday afternoon by the apostolic Nuncio Luigi Bianco. “The Apostolic Nunciature has the Joy to announce that the Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Rt Rev Lambert Bainomumugisha as the new Archbishop of Mbarara,” the letter reads. Bunyole West lawmaker Hon James Waluswaka, has mocked Members of Parliament that returned the 20m Covid money. Waluswaka said it would take a mad man to think twice to return. Parliament has passed the Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2020 with amendments which will see an increase in the taxes levied on petrol and diesel effective 01 July 2020. The tax on petrol has been increased from Shs1,200 per litre to Shs 1,350 per litre and that of diesel from Shs 880 to Shs 1,030 reflecting a markup of Shs 150 per litre on either items. However, the taxes on items like kerosene, lubricants and motorcycles at first registration have been stayed. COVID-19 UPDATE: Four (4) patients who have recovered from COVID-19 have this afternoon been discharged from Entebbe Grade B Hospital. This brings the total number of recoveries to 45. The number of confirmed cases in Uganda stands at 61. Earlier today, Uganda discharged three COVID-19 patients from Mulago Hospital in Kampala. This was after they tested negative for the deadly disease two times. In a space of less than a fortnight, Malago Hospital alone has discharged a total of 20 patients out of the 41 total recoveries registered in Uganda. Uganda has this morning discharged three more COVID-19 patients from Mulago Hospital in Kampala. This was after they tested negative for the deadly disease two times. In a space of less than a fortnight, Malago Hospital alone has discharged a total of 20 patients out of the 41 total recoveries registered in Uganda. The Ministry of Health said only 3 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at the facility. Those discharged were handed certificates of recovery by Health Minister Joyce Moriku Kaducu at the Mulago Hospital where they had been admitted. They will now undergo psychosocial support before being reintegrated back…
Makerere University has this morning revealed plans to start conducting COVID-19 testing at the University hospital.
