Absa Uganda Limited formerly known as Barclays Bank has launched Uganda’s first fully digital bank branch, along Parliamentary Avenue. Speaking during the event, Nazim Mahmood – Absa Uganda Managing Director noted that the concept of a digital branch is based on the principle of convenience. The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has reiterated the need for foreign companies investing in Uganda to support locally made materials and products in a move to promote local content. According to Kadaga, many foreign companies have been given opportunities by the government to invest in Uganda but have failed to give priority on opportunities like jobs and raw materials to nationals. “Our people in Bunyoro are not happy because most of the drivers of trucks for the companies in the area are foreign, yet there are able Ugandans who can do the job,” said Kadaga. Parliament has learnt that government has never financed the nearly 20-year-old Uganda Air Cargo Corporation (UACC), whose services benefit mainly State House and Uganda People’s Defence Forces. UACC, Parliament was told, has been surviving on revenue generated from charter services for both passengers and cargo it renders, right from purchase of the aircraft to servicing of its operations. Hon Maganda Julius Wandera, the Minister of State for East African Community Affairs Tuesday addressed the media about this week’s Cabinet Resolutions. He said Cabinet sat on Monday November 11th 2019 at State House, Entebbe, and approved the establishment of the Eastern Africa Fusion and Liaison Unit (EAFLU) in Uganda. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has this morning left for #Kenya to attend the International Conference on Population and Development. Convening in #Nairobi, the summit aims at mobilising political will and financial commitments from leaders to urgently implement the ICPD Programme of Action. Mac East Africa in partnership with the Government of Uganda has today launched a workshop to train bus drivers and operators to observe road safety and save lives.
