Following the breach of the rules by two strangers in the visitors’ gallery, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has issued a stern warning against disrupting the important business of Parliament. The warning follows an incident in the House on Wednesday, 19 February where the unruly strangers jumped into the Chamber from the gallery as MPs debated a ministerial statement on the upcoming Land Information Systems Conference due later this week in Kampala. The Central Bank has reported up to Shs2 trillion in losses for the past 15 years, Finance State Minister (Planning), Hon. David Bahati has said. In a response to a Question for Oral Answer posed by MP Kenneth Lubogo (NRM, Bulamogi), Bahati said the Bank of Uganda posted only Shs40 billion in profits in 15 years, which was remitted to the Consolidated Fund Account as required by the Bank of Uganda Act. Ngora County MP, Hon David Abala has appealed for intervention in combating the invasion of locusts in Teso and other parts of Northern Uganda. Swarms of locusts entered Uganda in Amudat district from Kenya in early February and spread to the rest of the districts in Karamoja. The insects have since crossed to Otuke district in Northern Uganda and parts of Teso. As part of the interventions in combating the locusts, shs15 billion was allocated to buy pesticides and acquire aircrafts for aerial spraying. Members of Parliament were left disappointed when the Ministry of Education sought for more time to present a statement on the new lower secondary school curriculum. The Ministry was due to present a statement on the continued roll out of the lower secondary school curriculum contrary to the parliamentary resolution of Tuesday, 04 February 2020 that halted its review and roll out pending further consultation and preparation of key stakeholders. Members of Parliament have honoured their shs100 million pledge to rescue the Uganda dance group, the Triplets Ghetto Kids from being evicted from a home which they had failed to fully pay up for. On Monday 17th February 2020, Uganda’s leading opposition party, the Forum for Democratic Party made a formal announcement declaring Makerere University’s Doreen Nyanjura as the flag bearer for the loom Kampala City Council Authority Speaker race.
