At least seven people have died in Bugiri district since this year begun as a result of eating poisonous cassava, according to a police report. The report notes that majority of those who died are children below 5-years-old. The report lists the deceased as Musa Opio and Sarah Macho, both 5-year-old twins from Namukonge village in Kapyang Sub county, David Muwanguzi of Nawanjuki village, Juliius Ogema, Joseph Bwire and Michael Kasada all of residents of Butema village in Buluguyi Sub county, and 70-year-old,Christiano Wafula of Katale village in Nabukalu Sub county. News reaching our desk reveals that city tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has agreed to surrender some of his prime properties to the Bank of Uganda in order to settle the sh400b bank fraud case out of court. At least 47 people have died from hunger in various areas in South Sudan’s Amadi state since June, a local official said. Amadi’s Minister of Local Government, James Abdullah, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that many people face food insecurity in the area, adding that hunger is now killing local residents in the state. He revealed that the preliminary reports confirmed the death of about 47 people due to hungry in Aguele, Mvolo and Bahr Girinti Counties between June and July. The Parliamentary Commission is set to conduct the first phase of interviews for over 4,000 applicants, who applied for various positions in the Parliamentary Service. A concerned Ugandan citizen identified as Derick Nsereko has threatened to sue Bank of Uganda (the Central Bank of Uganda) for what he describes as failure to supervise Crane Bank (CBL) before it was put under receivership.
