High Commissioners and Consul Generals to Uganda have been assured of Uganda’s readiness to host the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) taking place from 22nd to 29th September 2019. President Yoweri Museveni has, in his State of the Nation Address to Parliament at the Kampala Serena Conference Centre on Thursday 6 June 2019, pronounced seven major drivers of economic progress, saying the economy is on course to self-sustenance. The number of people killed in a crackdown on pro-democracy protests in the Sudanese capital Khartoum has risen to 60, an opposition group says. Members of a feared paramilitary group are reported to be roaming the streets attacking civilians. The violence began when forces of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) opened fire on unarmed protesters on Monday. The military has faced international condemnation for the attack. The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has called on female employees to report cases of sexual harassment.
