Parliament has recommended that Security Minister, Gen Elly Tumwine, be reprimanded for breaching the privilege of a Member of Parliament and disrespecting the legislature. This follows a recommendation by the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline, which observed that, “from the conduct of Gen. Tumwine, the Committee finds that he actually assaulted Hon. The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has intensified the fight against substandard products with destruction of goods worth Shs300 million at Luweero Industries in Nakasongola. The goods destroyed included: non-complying building materials (cement); farm implements (pangas); Chemical and consumable products (cosmetics, mattresses etc.); assorted electricals; food and food products; assorted paper products; tyres, and assorted textiles among others. Building materials and farm implements registered the highest number of non-compliance to standards contributing 57% followed by assorted electrical at 22% and chemical/consumable products at 11%. There has been mixed reactions following the fuel tank explosion that shook people of Kyambura, Rubirizi district. Due to this incident, several people have provided relief items to families of the deceased however there was exchange of bitter words when the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Tuesday gave relief only shs 500,000/- So far, 23 people are reported to have died after the fuel tanker heading to Kasese rammed into four stationary vehicles causing a friction. Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame have signed an Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] committing to regional cooperation and security. This was done Wednesday in Luanda, Angola in the presence of President João Lourenço of Angola, President Museveni, President Tshisekedi of DR Congo and President Sassou Nguesso of Congo Brazzaville. This was the second quadripartite summit aimed at strengthening regional security and cooperation. The number of destitute children on the streets around Kampala has drastically gone down following a Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development drive to have then withdrawn, rehabilitated and resettled.
