The Uganda Police force and the sister security deployed in Jinja town on Saturday have been heavily criticized acting outside the law and using excessive force while handling opposition supporters. According to the pictures that have emerged, show police officers beating and brutally arrested Ronald Muhinda, a media assistant in the People’s Government. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today launched the commercial operations for Soroti Fruit Factory in Arapai Sub-County, Aloet village in Soroti District. The factory that was financed by the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) and support from the Korean National Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The factory employs about 150 people directly in the plant and about 1,000 farmers in the region. The facility currently makes orange and mango juice and the future plans entail making a variety of fruit juices.

Jinja based Kira FM has been switched off minutes after hosting seasoned politician Dr. Kiiza Besigye. Besigye and dozens of other Forum for Democratic Change Party delegates are in the area for the people’s Government reunion meeting with the local leaders. The head of Sudan’s military council has stood down a day after leading a coup that toppled long-time leader Omar al-Bashir amid a wave of protests. Defence Minister Awad Ibn Auf announced his decision on state TV. He named as his successor Lt Gen Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan. It comes after protesters refused to leave the streets, saying the coup leaders were too close to Mr Bashir. The army has said it will stay in power for two years, followed by elections. Dear friends, I have seen a few comments on social media seemingly wondering how our call on the people to register as voters will rid Uganda of dictator Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
