Sudan’s defense minister said on Thursday that President Omar al-Bashir had been detained “in a safe place” and that a military council would run the country for a two-year transitional period, confirming a long anticipated coup by the armed forces. In a statement broadcast on state TV Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf said there would be elections at the end of the transitional period. Uganda’s Opposition supporters are still immersed in jubilations following yesterday’s big announcement of the over throw of Sudanese President Omar El Bashiru. In a space of a fortnight, two African presidents have been forced to step down after protests from the people. One of them is Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, 82, resigned on April 3 after weeks of massive street protests. Uganda’s delegation to the 140th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly have called for an emergency fund to help African countries affected by Cyclone Idai that left 847 people dead and over three million displaced. Uganda U17 National Team flew to Dar es Salaam this morning for the Total CAF U17 final tournament to take place from 14th-28th April in Tanzania. This was after a successful 10 day training camp in Kenya (1st-10th April) meant for acclimatization to the high temperatures of Dar es Salaam where two practice matches were played in Nairobi with Kenya U18 (0-0) and Gor Mahia FC U20 (4-4).
