The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah, has called on development partners to push for malaria eradication and move away from control. Oulanyah, who was meeting the United Kingdom (UK) All-Party Parliamentary Group on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases said that malaria can be eliminated if there are concerted efforts from all the concerned parties. “Can malaria be eradicated? Parliament has approved a request from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to acquire land from Hoima District Local Government for establishment of a regional office for monitoring oil and gas activities in the Albertine Graben. On Tuesday, State minister for Minerals Peter Lokeris presented a motion for a resolution of Parliament to authorize the acquisition of land by her ministry from Hoima district. Charles Angina, the Deputy National Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, has told MPs on the Natural Resources Committee of Parliament that 300 companies in Uganda have complied with the Presidential Directive to recycle plastic material. Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General Doris Akol has given birth to twins at the age of 48. According to a photo that is making rounds on social media, Akol and her hubby are seen carrying a set of twins who all seemingly in good health. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development is seeking to acquire land from Hoima District Local Government for establishment of a regional office for monitoring oil and gas activities in the Albertine Graben. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah, has directed the Committee on Agriculture to investigate alleged mistreatment of fishermen on islands and landing sites by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF). This followed MPs showing dissatisfaction with a statement presented to the House by Hon. Bright Rwamirama, the Minister of State for Veteran Affairs, in response to torture claims made by MPs from the fishing communities.
