Legislators want certificates of teachers found guilty of sexual violence canceled. The MPs were responding to the report from the select committee that inquired into allegations of sexual violence in institutions of learning in Uganda during plenary sitting on Wednesday, 27 March 2019. Members of Parliament have learnt with shock that the ownership of Uganda Airlines, which is being revived by government, is shrouded in mystery. In its report on a Supplementary Appropriation Bill for Parliament’s consideration, the Committee on Budget said government owned a paltry two out of 2 million shares leaving over 1.9 million shares in the hands of unknown individuals. Members of Parliament have tasked government to put in place safety and health measures to check relief food provided to communities. The MPs raised the concern following a case of suspected food poisoning in Karamoja sub-region that has left four people dead and over 260 persons hospitalised. Members of Parliament investigating the compensation of Ugandan traders in South Sudan are disappointed to note that the list of traders approved by Parliament for payment was inaccurate. MPs learnt that the list of 23 traders with unsettled claims provided by the Ministry of Finance to Parliament does not match with the original list verified by the Trade Ministry. Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah’s ex-wife is battling a case in US court where she was sued by a Ugandan lady for allegedly flouting labour laws.Ladywinnie Amoo says that she gave accommodation to a Ugandan lady identified as Rosette Nsonga from Bugiri who was a good friend to her mother. Uganda operates with only 8 nephrologists (kidney doctors) and two dialysis centres to cater for the rising number of kidney related cases. According to Dr. Joseph Gyagenda Ogavu of St Francis Hospital, Nsambya, there are only 8 nephrologists to cater for over 40m Ugandans, 10 physicians who are not trained in nephrology, but assist in offering kidney treatment and only 50 nurses countrywide.
