The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, says he will thwart any attempts to skew party presidential elections in favour of any of the candidates in the race. Makerere University has finally demolished the illegal kiosks that have been serving cheap food to students. The demolition was done last week on the orders of the University’s outgoing vice chancellor, Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu. This came just a day to the reopening of the new semester on Saturday. Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga says he will mount a legal challenge to the result of last week’s presidential election, which he claims was rigged. Mr Odinga, who was defeated by incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta, has accused the electoral authorities of fraud tantamount to “democracy’s slaughter”. But foreign observers described the election as free and fair. The international community has urged calm amid fears that the fraud claims could result in violence. Zimbabwe’s government has sought diplomatic immunity for President Robert Mugabe’s wife in the assault case against her in South Africa, South Africa’s police ministry has said. Grace Mugabe was still in South Africa, it added, contradicting earlier reports that she had returned to Zimbabwe. A 20-year-old South African model has accused Mrs Mugabe of assaulting her at a hotel in Johannesburg on Sunday. Police expected Mrs Mugabe, 52, to surrender on Tuesday, but she did not. Six workers attached to Ntungamo District Local Government have been suspended for alleged indecent dressing. The suspended officers include Godfrey Tumusiime, Ashaba Alex, Robert Muhwezi, Ahabwe Johnson, Rodgers Kizito and Felix Barugahare. They were suspended by the Chief Administrative Officer Kweyamba Ruhemba who faulted them for defying public service standing orders by dressing in a manner that portrays a bad image of the district.
