President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts on Local Government for its well and elaborate researched findings on the Accounting Officers of District Local Governments and Municipal Councils countrywide on the irregularities of service delivery to the public. Speaking while addressing the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee on Local Governments at statehouse, Museveni noted that he discourages the idea of taxing the poor. A report has been presented to Parliament on the validation of the Situation Analysis of Persons with Albinism in Uganda. The Report seeks to increase awareness and protection of their rights. The report, which was delivered by Hon. Aliro Omara, a consultant for Office of the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights was backed by the Uganda Albinism Society. Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament has accused government security officials for taking people’s lives for granted. Limited funding is hampering the much needed training of the labour force required in the country’s industrial development, the Executive Director of the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI), Prof. Charles Kwesiga, has told legislators. “We are having a problem of poor facilitation from government which has not enabled us to fully sustain the Institute,” said Prof. Kwesiga, who was meeting MPs on the Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation on Monday 22 October 2018.
