MultiChoice Uganda contributes UGX 30m Rotary Blood Bank Program

MultiChoice Uganda has today joined other stake holders to support Rotary Uganda‘s initiative dubbed “One Drop of Blood initiative” with a Ugx 30 million contribution towards operationalizing the blood bank at Mengo Hospital.

Uganda has an annual deficit of 100,000 units of blood and Rotary Uganda’s target for this year is to equip this facility so that it is a fully fledged Blood Bank which can test, process and pack safe blood. The funds will go towards purchasing equipment, which will enable the facility to test, process and pack safe blood, buy consumables and to also purchase a fully equipped mobile blood bank to transport blood safely.

Rotary Uganda is looking to raise US$500,000 towards the equipping of the Rotary Blood Bank at Mengo Hospital. As part of the one drop of blood initiative Rotary has organized a conference and a concert to help raise the money. The Funds from the concert, featuring jazz renowned saxophonist Kirk Whalum, will go towards purchasing equipment, which will enable the facility to test, process and pack safe blood, buy consumables and to also purchase a fully equipped mobile blood bank to transport blood safely.

The concert dubbed ‘Kirk Whalum Live’ will take place on Thursday 7th March at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Kirk Whalum has conducted numerous tours on the African continent including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda. His a favorite of world leaders, he performed for the late Nelson Mandela and at the two official inaugurations of US President Bill Clinton.

Charles Hamya, MultiChoice Uganda, General Manager today handed over a Ugx 30 million dummy cheque to Emmanuel Katongole , Chairman , Rotary Blood Bank Program at the MultiChoice Uganda head offices in Kololo. The company’s contribution is towards the functioning of the Mengo Blood Bank.
